Most other Tails installations are just done half way, that is the changes are NOT permanent and anything you do will be erased which is fine when your just surfing but becomes increasingly difficult if you are tying to document or save anything. With our installation on a USB stick, you also have at least 2 GB of encrypted storage. No one else offers this, despite claiming to do so. Also booting from the hardware instead of a VM or CD/DVD ROM gives better security and control and DVD live disks cannot be updated so you are stuck with obsolete software.

Tails works on most reasonably recent computers, say manufactured after 2008. Here is a detailed list of requirements:

• Your computer must be able to boot from a USB stick.
• Tails requires a 64-bit x86_64 compatible processor: IBM PC Compatibles and others but not PowerPC nor ARM. Mac computers are IBM PC compatible since 2006. Tails does not run on most tablets and phones.
• 2 GB of RAM to work smoothly. Tails is known to work with less memory but you might experience strange behaviors or crashes.
